Statement Bangs!

In 2015, the shaggy, textured, lob dominated. Pink hair was seen on the heads of both celebs and civilians. “Bronde,” had another moment in the spotlight.  Ombre and Granny-Grey appeared, as did sunset hair. Also, ornate and artistic braids were a big hit.  What lies in store for 2016 is exciting for women, and in my blogs, I’ll  be sharing some of these wonderfully-anticipated ideas and looks in order for you to achieve your most flattering look.

In 2016, hair trends will become more specialized.  Specifically, cuts, colors, and styles will evolve into hair art.  The Spring 2016 runway was taken over by models with Statement Bangs, as seen in the Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang shows. This look works for those with curly or straight hair at any length and it’s an easy way to get a new look without excessive change.

If you want bangs and your hair is straight, you can work a more traditional version of the look, no problem. But curly girls don’t have to be beholden to their hot tools. Textured fringe is in. It’s completely subverting what having bangs means and it’s a sexy way to embrace your texture and add a cool-girl element.

The trick to making sure your curly fringe looks good is to not actually cut it like a bang section. Communicating with a salon professional that you want to wear your bangs in your natural hair texture is of most importance and will allow the most flattering look.

Before cutting Statement Bangs, ask yourself some questions:

1. Are you itching for a change, but you’re not ready to lose any precious length off of your strands?

2. Do you think your face looks better when your hair is down or in a ponytail? Tucked behind your ears? Or untucked? If you said ponytail or tucked, go for it. Ponytails and tucked hairstyles expose the corners of your face (cheekbones and corners of your jaw), as do broad, brow-lengths.

3. Are you athletic? Work in the food-service industry? Busy mom? Nothing turns a “blah” ponytail   into a chic fashion statement like a heavy fringe.

4. Do you have fine/thinning hair or deep recession points in your hairline? Two words-Instant volume!

On the other hand, if you  have a finicky or prominent hairline or cowlicks be warned. Avoid bangs with a blunt edge. Instead, opt for more of a “shattered” edge to camouflage any hairline discrepancies.  Also, the heavier, the better. Some cowlicks just need a little-added weight to stay down.  If you’re not into the maintenance of bang-trims every 2-4 weeks, don’t attempt to  wear them. If you  have a low hairline, a heavy fringe  on a low hairline may lead to more styling difficulties than it’s worth. Instead, try longer, side-swept bangs or a high face frame that can easily be pulled back if needed.

If you can’t decide to cut and want to take “baby steps”, don’t cut! Statement Bangs are an all or nothing kind of deal. Attempting something in-between or starting with a thin layer of bangs may result in something more matronly than chic.

Remember,  when in doubt, consult, consult, consult!   A salon professional can help you determine what your best options are, what to expect, and how to achieve your desired results safely and effectively.

Here’s to 2016, a year of fabulous and exciting hair!

Holiday Hair Strobing!

As 2015 comes to a close, we think back to all the trends that have exploded on the scene and then faded as time passed.  Well, here’s the latest trend that may stick around for awhile and is sure to peak your interest!  With this fashion-forward technique you’ll be the hit not only at your holiday parties and linger through 2016 with a smash– It’s called Hair Strobing.

You may be familiar with makeup strobing, a familiar technique that Kim Kardashian has given rise to the mainstream.  It’s the art of contouring your face, which is blending the dark and light shades in order to take advantage of certain features while disguising others. In-the-know, hairstylists have now introduced Hair Strobing to their clients.   Similar to strategically adding highlighter to your face, adding highlights with deliberate and flattering placement to the hair is the ultimate goal.

Creating hair color is not a one-size-fits-all..  There are many shades and tones in your natural hair and skin that need to be considered  before complimenting colors can be added in order to enhance your features.  Hair strobing works for the face in a similar way as typical foil highlighting.   Strobing adds shimmer to the parts of the hair where light would naturally  hit, thus allowing focus and attention to the best features while minimizing others.  The clever placement and contrast of color two shades lighter and two shades darker than the natural hair is intertwined using wider ribbons to create the look.  Strobing is more piecey and blended than balyage with just the right balance.  Your hair will give the appearance of the sun’s natural-reflection.

If using permanent color or bleach on your hair isn’t something that appeals to you, consider adding hair extensions in the exact target colors you desire.  Hair extensions provide a non-chemical strobing look that is simple, achievable and non-damaging.  Use brighter colors for your spring and summer look, then tone down and use warmer colors for the fall and winter months.  When you are tired of the look, remove the extensions and start with a clean slate.  Hairdreams and Great Lengths hair extensions provides a plethora of colors and the ultimate and unparalleled quality of hair available.  Call for a no-obligation consultation and ring in the new year with a trend that’s sure to endure.  Most of all, the best part is saying your hair has been “strobed” !

When the month of October is mentioned, the first thing that usually pops into one’s mind is Halloween!

Halloween, which is also known as All Hallows’ Eve, is a yearly celebration observed in many countries on October 31, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day.  It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs and all the faithful departed believers whose souls have yet to reach heaven.

Today our society celebrates Halloween entirely different.  When we think of Halloween, we conjure-up the idea of vampires, monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches and devils.  All can be pretty scary and, unfortunately, have something in common with the aforementioned.  SCARY HAIR!

Summertime can take a toll on our hair.  Sun, salt and chlorinated water, high-lift tints and bleach for that natural-blonde look can leave our hair looking dry, dull and lifeless.  That’s scary as well.  With the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays just around the corner,  it’s nice to enter into the festive season with great hair!

Cutting many inches off of your hair is a viable option.  Afraid to go shorter? Go for it!  A shorter look may be just what is needed for that fresh holiday hair.  Want healthy hair, but like your length? Be daring and cut off all the unhealthy ends to achieve frizz-free hair.  After all of the broken and damaged ends are cut, attach hair extensions.  Extensions are the fastest and easiest way to get your hair long again without waiting for it to grow back.

Hairdreams Hair Creations hair extensions manufactures top-quality hair with bonds made of crystal polymer.  This means after months of wear, your extensions will look beautiful and shiny without any damage.  In fact, after removal your own hair will not only be in an excellent condition (the extension actually wraps around your hair and protects it), but longer as well.  With the Laserbeamer Nano technique by Hairdreams, you can have your new look in a couple of hours from start to finish. There’s nothing frightening about that!

Why go through the holidays with scary hair?  Buy professional-quality, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, lop-off those 2-3 inches damaged ends and try premium quality hair extensions by Hairdreams and Lori Veltri.  BOO!

Almost 1 ½ years has passed since I became the First, and at that time, the Only Certified Hairstylist in the United States in the Hairdreams Laserbeamer Nano Hair Creation System.  It’s been a fulfilling experience for me to be able to provide a revolutionary method of installment for premium hair extensions.

Throughout my 30-plus year history as a Hairstylist, I am frequently asked to help cover thinning hair or balding areas at the top of the head by utilizing my various techniques of single strand hair extensions.  Unfortunately, I have had to respond with bad news and explain hair extensions will not provide a satisfactory remedy.  Turning the “desperate-for-hair woman” away was heartbreaking.  I knew there had to be a way to where I could resolve these problems without having to compromise quality by utilizing an inferior product.  I wanted to offer the ultimate, unrivaled and most natural looking system with multiple benefits.  The answer is Volume+ by Hairdreams.

Each type of system is designed for various issues of hair-loss and bald spots which is matched to remedy the specific problem(s).   Volume+ includes MicroLines, Top Hair Zero, HighLines 2, and of course, Hairdreams Individual Strands and Laserbeamer Nano.  Custom styles can also be designed for more intricate issues or to add extra long length.

Volume+  hair system is worn 24/7, can be brushed at the root, shampooed and styled with ease.  It allows  the client the freedom of wearing it in the pool, at the gym, is comfortable and, most importantly, looks 100% natural.  Best of all each style is hand-made and hand-tied by Hairdreams and their prestigious 7-star European hair.

Each style is attached via Hairdreams Bonding Ring at the client’s roots which is durable, lasts for weeks and integrates the clients own hair throughout.  The re-attachment occurs after 4-6 weeks and allows no limitation to the clients lifestyle.  Hair Extensions may or may not be necessary.

The results are incredible which allows the wearer to feel self-confident and beautiful again.  This, in turn, is a reward for me.  It feels great to make people happy!

Hair Tapestry- The New Hair Look!

Hair tapestry #4

Tired of the same-ol’ when it comes to creating a new and different look for your hair?    Clips, feathers, flowers, chalking, headbands and scarves have been the go-to mainstream. Now  there’s a newer, trendier look that’s catching on like wildfire and it’s called Hair Tapestry.

Hair Tapestry is a fresh and easy way to create something original and can add more interest to your Boho waves and end-of-summer styles.

The idea was originally inspired by traditional Andrean tapestries from Argentina but the colors, patterns and variations are limitless. Needlepoint, cross-stitching or embroidery thread is woven through a block of hair using a Tapestry Loom creating colorful and intricate patterns. Utilize your own hair strands, or if you want easy pop-in and take-out designs, try old or left-over clip-in hair weft extensions that are used as the needlepoint canvas. The hair extension technique allows you to preserve your design(s) much longer without any care or maintenance to the tapestry. If deciding to attach directly to your own hair, the design can last a week or so with proper care.

While achieving this  may require some needlework mastery, you can give it a try with very simple and easy-to-find craft supplies. A colorful thread, needle, and a tapestry loom is all that is needed. Weaving the design is as simple as an “over and under” threading. Hide the knots behind the strands and weave in as many colors or patterns as wanted.

Colorful threads are a fantastic way of expressing your attitude without any long-term commitment. Going to a concert?  Weave in some vivid shades.  Attending a dressy party?  Your hair deserves metallic thread that will be a sure hit by adding some bling and texture.

Whatever the occasion and look, this is a quick and easy way to have fun with your hair.

Change up the same-ol’ and show your creativity with Hair Tapestry!

Living Proof Hair Products for Protection

It’ s July– the middle of summer and your hair is probably suffering. These hot and humid months can wreak havoc on your hair. Finding the proper products to replenish moisture, repel humidity or maximize volume has always been a feat. Until now! Living Proof hair products hit the hair-scene in 2008 and has been winning best-product awards ever since.

Living Proof’s ambition is to challenge conventional wisdom to solve your toughest beauty problems. Living Proof has invented and patented two new molecules, OFPMA and PBAE, that have never been used in beauty before.

OFPMA is a superior way to care for and style hair; better than any of the conventional technologies that exist in the market, like silicone and oils.

This brilliantly bulletproof molecule creates an exquisitely thin, invisible shield around every hair strand.

With this shield:

  • hair becomes healthier over time
  • hair is strengthened and protected from daily assaults like brushing and washing
  • hair balances the flow of moisture in and out of strands, so damaging moisture flux is controlled
  • hair fights off humidity, so frizz is stopped in its tracks
  • hair repels oil and dirt so it stays cleaner, longer
  • hair texture is polished into a smooth, glossy lustre

OFPMA is in almost all Living Proof products because every head of hair deserves the best. Without compromise.

PBAE is a tiny molecule that does big things. Literally. PBAE creates a micropattern of thickening dots on every hair strand, making hair look and behave like textured, full, thick hair. To understand the power of the PBAE technology, it’s helpful to first understand the root cause of flat hair. It only takes two words: No Friction. Flat hair simply has no friction. The hair strands are so fine and smooth that they lie flat on top of each other.

The way conventional texturizers and volumizers work is by trying to create friction…but in two very ineffective ways. They either use damaging chemicals that lift the hair’s cuticle so the strands don’t lie flat against each other or add glue-like resins that build up on hair, making it feel stiff and unnatural and fall flat fast.

PBAE’s microscopic pattern of thickening dots sit on the surface of the hair, creating the much needed friction and space between every fine hair strand without any of the damage or baggage of conventional technologies. These thickening dots have endurance and don’t break down, even as you run your fingers through your locks, making fullness completely revivable and renewable.

With PBAE:

  • Hair behaves like full, thick hair with body and volume
  • Hair has volume and texture that is revivable and long lasting

Many of Living Proof’s texturizing and volumizing stylers are powered by PBAE to provide texture, body and thickness like you’ve never seen before…without tradeoffs. Your choice of 4 different product lines means that Living Proof can be used on every type of hair. Opt for No-Frizz, Restore, Full or PHD(Perfect Hair Day) shampoos, conditioners or styling aids.

Living Proof is the perfect solution when concerned about caring for hair extensions. This is because these products do not contain sulfates, which strip your hair of natural essential oils and chemically-colored hair, and has a strong potential to be an irritant for the skin and eyes.

Therefore, Living Proof leaves those delicate extension bonds completely in tact which allows the extension to stay in the hair longer.

Don’t worry about your summer hair issues any longer! Get Living Proof where beauty meets brilliant science!

Fresh Hair Trends for 2015!

What’s the trendiest look for April you ask?

No, It’s not pastel hair anymore!

Jewel-toned hair has become the hot new look celebrities are sporting nowadays on and off the camera. Previously, bold colors like blue and purple were associated with youthful, punky looks. But these new colors of gemstones such as ruby reds and amethyst purples are sophisticated and rich, not to mention super stylish. Jewel-toned hair is based off of gemstone colors. The colors are not light, like pastel-colored hair, they are more subdued and have dark undertones.  Ruby Reds, Emerald Greens, Amethyst Purples or Sapphire Blues are easily obtained.  No longer is the need to bleach your hair to a pale blonde shade prior to applying the jewel-tone colors.  This is good news for brunettes although girls with blonde or red hair can dye their hair darker to achieve this look.

If you’re not ready to make the jump for an all-over vibrant look,  simply try your favorite gemstone-color for a few highlights.  Still afraid?  You can achieve this look with Hair Extensions as an alternative.  Great Lengths and Hairdreams Hair Creations can provide you with the precise colors you desire.  There are no chemicals applied to your own hair and no need for any pre-lightening or coloring. The vibrancy and depth of the color(s) will never fade!  Then, when you are tired of one color, switch out your extensions for a different color. Adaptable, care-free, and easy to maintain!  They’re all beautiful, dynamic colors and easy to rock.

Best of all,  it’s fast and affordable!

Check out Selena Gomez and Katy Perry!  They look Gem-a-licious!

Spring is a time for renewal. It brings us a new season accompanied with changes.  Those changes can signify not only a fresh and new look for one’s wardrobes, but also for their hair.  When considering a hair revamp, take into consideration the hottest new look for Spring 2015—Long, sexy, wavy hair!

Spring styles include Boho Waves which are subtle and “barely-there” waves.  Boho waves are loose and sexy allowing the hair to hang below the shoulders and framing the face for a soft look.  Long ponytails have adjusted from high and sleek to a lower and looser look.  Updating this look is simple, use mixed-materials as fun and ornamental accessories.  For example, these can include leather, flowers or ribbons. Braids and twists combinations stole looks on the runways at Fashion Week by integrating the two, making the impression of a creative and textured effect.

You may be shaking your head and asking yourself why you cut your hair off a few months ago!  What if your hair is too short to rock these Spring Styles? If you want your hair long again,  luckily, there is a solution and it’s easy!  Great Lengths Hair Extensions and Hairdreams Hair Creations allows you to obtain your desired look before the spring turns to summer.  These top-quality hair extensions are 100% natural and move freely enabling the hair to be braided from roots to ends.  The extension strands and bonds are undetectable when pulled into a ponytail, therefore these confidence-assuring looks will undoubtedly be a success.

RED is the Color of February!

charlize-theron-headband-main

The color red seems synonymous with the month of February. It represents the red of fashion, the red of love, and the red of boldness.  We see Hollywood’s best display of walking down the famed red carpet for the Academy Awards, and also see red for Valentine’s Day.  Many will attend parties for these events and what better way to entwine both than with a  glamorous movie-star “do” for your galas.

This year we are seeing ladies on the red carpet rocking hairstyles that are vintage trends! Women are shying away from their highly straightened hair and turning towards soft and wavy hair that is classic and striking.   Bring a taste of Hollywood’s glitter to your Valentine’s Day by accessorizing with a headband  You may not have the opportunity to wear a diamond-encrusted cartier band like Charlize Theron, but you can create one with your own style.  No drastic cutting or coloring of your hair is needed and it’s an inexpensive way to make your statement.  Headbands can look great, they stand out and can actually hide and help disguise a bad hair day if need be.

Vintage is IN!  Don’t spend hours trying to flat iron hair straight and smooth.   Working with hair that has been washed a day or two prior or even with damp hair makes styling faster and easier.

Just a curling iron and a bit of volumizing and finishing spray is all that is needed.

If you are struggling with lack of waves, length or volume in your hair, I have the perfect solution in a quick, easy and glamourous way  Hair extensions are a great way to achieve one or all of these issues.  Great Lengths Hair Extensions or Hairdreams Hair Creations have natural wave and allow these styles to be attained easily.

Other stars who sported soft and wavy locks were Amy Adams, Reese Whitherspoon, Sienna Miller, Emma Stone, Jessica Chasten and Jennifer Lopez. You may not be a celebrity, but why not look and feel just as glam?
